With health care delivery on a fast pace toward transformation, strong partnerships between physicians and hospitals to lead the clinical enterprise are more essential than ever. Join your physician and hospital executive colleagues for this complimentary program to hear from some of the leading edge experts on physician leadership competencies, and the new roles and responsibilities for physicians in the transforming environment.

This interactive, half-day session will include an overview of the changing landscape and the leadership competencies physicians will need to be effective partners with hospitals and health systems to move toward a more accountable and efficient health delivery system. You will also hear from a panel of experienced physician executives on different leadership education modes and methods that have been shown to be successful. The program is structured to encourage networking and exchange of ideas among attendees, and will include presentations, panel discussions, and Q&A sessions.

The Physician Leadership meeting is brought to you through collaboration between the American Hospital Association, the American College of Physician Executives, and The Joint Commission.

12:45 – 1:45 p.m. Physician Leadership

A transformed delivery system must support physician integration through collaborative organizational structures and cultures. So how do you teach physicians the strategic skills necessary to help lead a transformed organization? Dr. Angood will review the competencies required, and the education and training opportunities being developed.

Hear from Dr. McKee as she shares her perspective on the skills physicians in hospital leadership roles need today, and those skills they will need in the future to move the health care delivery system forward.

3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Sharing Leadership Education – Successful Modes and Methods
Hear from experienced health care leaders who have recognized the need for increased physician expertise in leadership and management. Learn how these diverse physician leadership education programs succeeded. Models range from system-wide programs, association-led initiatives, boot camps and hospital-centered multi-year programs.
